Permits, insurances and certifications


OWAD Environment conducts all operations under the necessary work permits and authorities.

We have permits & approvals to work with our Koala detection dog in Queensland and New South Wales.

Current permits include (but are no limited to):

Koala and Quoll surveys in Queensland:

  • Animal Ethics Committee Approval (CA 2015/01/840) valid from February 2015 (Qld Department of Agriculture and Fisheries)
  • Biosecurity Queensland Registration Certificate - valid from February 2015 (Biosecurity Queensland)
  • Scientific Purposes Permit required on a case by case basis for nominated protected areas (e.g. National Parks, State Forests) *SPP not required for unprotected areas* (Qld Department of Environment and Heritage Protection)

Koala and Quoll surveys in New South Wales:

  • Animal Research Authority (TRIM 15/2129) valid from 28 September 2015 (NSW Department of Primary Industries)
  • Animal Care and Ethics Certificate of Approval (TRIM 15/2129) valid from 28 September 2015 (NSW Department of Primary Industries)
  • Scientific Licence (SL101634) valid from 8 October 2015 (NSW Office of Environment & Heritage)
  • Research Permit valid from October 2015 (Forestry Corporation of NSW)

Environmental engineering:

  • Radiation Safety Act 1999 Use Licence: Hand held X-ray fluorescence radiation apparatus to carry out chemical analysis - valid to 21 January 2018.
  • Hot Work Permits.


OWAD Environment has $2 million Professional Indemnity insurance for any one claim.

Our Public and Products Liability is $10 million.

Our detection dogs are insured as working professional detection dogs.

Our work vehicle (Toyota FJ Cruiser), is insured as a commercial vehicle, has full comprehensive insurance and has roadside assistance.

Certificates of currency can be provided for the above upon request.


  • Alex and Olivia are Certified Environmental Practitioners (CEnvP) from the Environmental Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ).
  • Alex, Olivia and the detection dogs are certified by the Conservation Division of the Australian Canine Detection Certification Council (CDCC).
  • Alex and Olivia have current Senior First Aid training (including CPR).
